Trapped and constrained; difficult to break free
Heavenly Net and Earthly Snare mainly indicates entanglement, constraint and difficulty in breaking free. "The meaning of net and snare is very clear. Why then are Xu and Hai called Heavenly Net, and Chen and Si Earthly Snare? Because Heaven tilts to the northwest, Xu and Hai are the end of the six yin; Earth sinks in the southeast, Chen and Si are the end of the six yang. When yin and yang reach their extreme, all becomes dark and unclear, just like a person caught in a net—this is the idea."
The ancients believed that the formation of Heavenly Net and Earthly Snare is related to the ultimate extremity of yin and yang. Heaven tilts to the northwest, and Xu and Hai mark the end of the six yin; Earth sinks in the southeast, and Chen and Si mark the end of the six yang. When yin and yang reach their limit, things become dim and obscure, like a person trapped in a net and unable to free themselves.
In modern society, those whose charts contain Heavenly Net and Earthly Snare may, at certain stages, feel heavily constrained and blocked in their development. However, this also serves as a reminder to stay calm in difficult situations and consciously seek breakthroughs. Sometimes, apparent limitations can instead force a person to think more deeply and thereby find a new path forward.
