"Hua Gai is likened to a precious canopy. In Heaven there is this star, its form like a canopy, constantly covering the throne of the Great Emperor. Therefore, where the base of the Three Combinations reaches the storehouse is called Hua Gai. For any person whose fate gains Hua Gai, it mostly indicates solitary yet noble; although there is honor, one cannot avoid loneliness, and such charts are discussed in connection with monks, Daoists, and the arts. Hu Zhongzi said: Hua Gai is the star of skills and arts."

Classical texts record that Hua Gai has a dual nature: it mostly indicates being solitary yet noble—that is, although one is somewhat alone, one still carries noble qi; yet one cannot escape loneliness, and the personality tends to be aloof and not inclined to mingle with the crowd. As a star of arts and skills, Hua Gai is suitable for monastic cultivation, artistic creation, spiritual guidance, and research in metaphysics. When this star enters the life chart, the native is richly talented, but the character is proud and withdrawn, disliking worldly vulgarity, and often surpasses ordinary people in terms of spiritual realm.
